About the event

Gather with Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) for an IN-PERSON mass meeting focused on this election 2024. Speakers from National SURJ and Carolina Federation will help make sense of how we got here so that you will leave clear on the role of white people in growing movements for racial and economic justice and commit to action. Leaders from Peaceful Schools and the Chapel Hill Town Council will also be present to share their perspectives. We’re excited to meet you and enjoy snacks, music, and some art as we build a better world together! Join us September 29th from 3-5PM at The Fruit in Durham, NC.

  • Meeting our neighbors and building relationships so we don’t feel so isolated amidst this wild year
  • Learning about SURJ’s story, vision and plan for 2024 and the presidential election - which is just one stop on the road towards true racial and economic justice.
  • Training on why and how we need to grow the number of white people taking action for justice. Our movements don’t yet have the power we need, and it’s our role to bring our people so we can grow.
  • Where we go from here, with clear ways to take action to protect the federal government from a fascist takeover, prepare ourselves for post-election organizing no matter the results, and bolster the ongoing local and national work to win the world we need.

This event is alcohol-free and family friendly, and will include some activities for children. Masking is encouraged and we’ll have extras on hand.

What is SURJ? Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) is a national network of groups and individuals organizing white people for racial and economic justice. SURJ mobilizes white people because we believe we have an important responsibility to organize our communities away from racism and into movements for change. Learn more at surj.org
